Taking the Stage.

We are pleased to welcome Richard Gemmill, Executive Director of the Northwestern Ontario Innovation Centre (NOIC), to this year's judging panel.

Richard is a passionate advocate for innovation and entrepreneurship, believing that new ideas and creative thinking are key drivers of economic growth and prosperity. In his role at NOIC, he works closely with entrepreneurs and innovators, helping connect them with the resources, support, and opportunities needed to succeed.

Before joining NOIC, Richard spent more than a decade in academic leadership at Confederation College, serving in a variety of senior roles including Vice President Academic, Dean, Associate Dean, and Chair. His extensive experience in education, leadership, and business development provides a valuable perspective for emerging entrepreneurs.

A lifelong learner and first-generation post-secondary graduate, Richard holds credentials from both the college and university systems, including an MBA from Lakehead University. His appreciation for education and continuous growth has shaped his commitment to helping others achieve their goals.

Originally from the Ottawa Valley, Richard now proudly calls Northwestern Ontario home. Alongside his wife and two children, he enjoys exploring the region and embracing opportunities to learn from new people, places, and experiences.

We are pleased to welcome Sandra Moore, Executive Director of the Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre (SSMIC), to this year's judging panel.

With more than two decades of leadership experience spanning academia, government, non-profit organizations, and international development, Sandra has dedicated her career to advancing innovation, workforce development, sustainable energy solutions, and emerging technologies. Her work has focused on helping individuals, businesses, and communities embrace new opportunities and thrive in a rapidly evolving economy.

As Executive Director of SSMIC, Sandra leads a diverse portfolio of innovation, business support, data and AI services, and food security initiatives that support entrepreneurs, organizations, and municipalities across the Algoma region and beyond. Throughout her career, she has also played a key role in developing cleantech and STEM programs, supporting inclusive economic development, and championing the adoption of emerging technologies.

Sandra's impact has been recognized nationally, including being named one of Atlantic Business Magazine's Top 25 Most Powerful Women in Business in Atlantic Canada in 2025. Her leadership continues to inspire innovation, collaboration, and meaningful change across sectors and communities.

We are pleased to welcome Matthew Doherty, Executive Director of Innovation Initiatives Ontario North (IION), to this year's judging panel.

With more than a decade of experience supporting innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic development across Northern Ontario, Matthew has played a key role in helping businesses access the programs, partnerships, and resources needed to grow and succeed. His leadership and commitment to building a stronger innovation ecosystem have helped create meaningful opportunities for entrepreneurs throughout the region.

As Executive Director of IION, Matthew continues to champion innovation-driven businesses and foster collaborations that support long-term economic growth and impact.
