Health and Safety Consultant (Full-time)

Reporting to NORCAT’s Chief Advisory Officer, the Health and Safety Consultant will be responsible for working with cross-functional team members to plan, revise and write training content and documentation for clients and advise clients in health and safety programming. The appropriate candidate will also work well independently and have excellent attention to detail, writing, and organizational skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Write and develop course descriptions, learning objectives, training content (instructor guide, student workbook, presentation materials, knowledge, and competency assessments).
  • Liaise with staff in various departments such as subject matter experts, trainers and graphic design to produce final client deliverables and oversee content accuracy.
  • Build project timeliness and track progress for client deliverables.
  • Conduct training audits and audit health, safety & environment programs
  • Write and develop custom health and safety manuals while adhering to accreditation standards (e.g. ISO 45001:2018, CSA Z45001-19, COR™ 2020).
  • Write and develop custom Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and other procedural documents.
  • Interpret technical documentation and translate it into user-friendly content that meets the needs of the target audience.
  • Assist with research, data analysis and custom training materials for various talent and human capital consulting projects.

Requirements / Qualifications:

Experience, Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Two years as a technical writer, researcher or equivalent experience demonstrated by a portfolio of work.
  • Post-secondary education in the relevant area of specialization (Occupational Health and Safety, Human Resources).
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST) is an asset.
  • Experience working within the mining or construction industry in a health and safety capacity.
  • Experience in developing training materials is an asset
  • Experience in developing health and safety manuals is an asset.
  • Professionalism and demonstration of integrity and honesty while performing responsibilities.
  • Excellent research, grammatical and written communication skills in English.
  • Proficiency in the French language is considered an asset.
  • Excellent relationship-building, customer service, organizational and analytical skills
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Particular attention to detail.
  • Strong oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong work ethic and time management skills/ability to work to deadlines with shifting priorities.

Job Position: Raise Drill Operator

Location: North Bay, ON

Duration: Full Time

Position Description:

Reporting to the Raise Boring Field Superintendent the Raise Drill Operator is responsible for the safe operation of the raise drill during all operations from set up to tear down.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Health and Safety:

  • Train new drillers and helpers.
  • Follow an established safety program that includes input from everyone on site.
  • Practice good housekeeping. Make certain the workplace is kept clean, and equipment is serviced and maintained.
  • At all times enforce the use of required PPE.
  • Follow established procedures and best practices.


General Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Establish open and honest communication with the client.
  • Work with the client to resolve any and all issues in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the raise drill.
  • Responsible for obtaining the maximum possible quality in any given ground condition, while achieving maximum production with minimal wear and tear on the in hole hardware and maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Responsible for the general condition of all site equipment and tools. The Driller must follow a preventative maintenance program and ensure the equipment is kept in optimum condition to minimize downtime.
  • Responsible for completing repairs on equipment when required and able to do so.
  • Responsible for all aspects of the raise drill operation. Manage the use of the in hole hardware for optimum performance while maintaining minimal wear and tear.
  • Responsible for complying with all regulations as legislated by local Governments as well as company and client regulation and procedures.
  • Operate all drills and associated equipment in a safe, efficient and productive manner.
  • Demonstrate an ability to work with the crew and be open to any and all communication.
  • Responsible to submit a daily shift report and to fill in the job's log book.
  • Responsible for raise drill and all associated equipment from set up to tear down.
  • Work with the cross-shift and leave the drill as you would like to see it upon beginning your shift.
  • Train new drillers and helpers in safe work methods and drilling techniques to achieve an accident-free workplace.
  • Make suggestions for improvements to equipment that would result in a more efficient, safer or more productive operation.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Travel Requirements:

  • This position has the requirement for frequent travel to our project sites and offices.
  • Travel period may range from one day to several weeks.
  • Travel may include International and overseas assignments.

Requirements / Qualifications:
Education and Experience:

  • Completion of High School
  • 3 to 5 years on long large diameter work, past experience operating a Strata 950 would be beneficial.
  • Accreditation in Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities (MTCU) Basic Common Core and Speciality Module U0072, Operate Raise Drill.
