Job Position: Underground Hard Rock Miner Common Core Trainer (Full-time)

Underground Hard Rock Miner Common Core Trainer (Full-time)

Reporting to the Director, Underground Centre, the Trainer will be responsible for training students in the Underground Hard Rock Miner Common Core MLITSD P#770010 modules. This is a full-time position and work hours are based on a 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday, dayshift only. On a day-to-day basis, the Trainer will work with trainees teaching them the fundamentals of hard rock mining. The emphasis of the training delivery method will be on practical, hands-on training.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a group of trainees on a day-to-day basis teaching them the fundamentals of hard rock mining and ensuring delivery of training complies with Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) standards as outlined in the Standards Booklets for the following modules:
    • U0000 Follow Surface and Underground Inductions Procedures
    • U0001 Perform General Inspections
    • U0002 Scale Loose Rock
    • U0003 Set Up Wooden Staging
    • U0004 Drill Rock
    • U0005 Rock Bolt Ground
    • U0006 Blast Rock
    • U0010 Muck with LHD
    • U0011 Extend Services
    • U0012 Lock out and Tag of Prime Movers and Related Equipment
  • Duties would include teaching the students to drill and bolt with jackleg and stopers drills, blasting, mucking with LHD, extending services of air and water, locking and tagging, erecting wooden staging, and skills that pertain to the mining cycle.
  • Ensure adherence to NORCAT safety policies and procedures
  • Provide support and/or administer select training and development programs as needed.
  • Perform mine maintenance and other work at the Underground Centre as required

Requirements / Qualifications:

  • Must be certified in Underground Hard Rock Miner Common Core MLITSD Program # 770010 (please submit official transcript for review)
  • Minimum ten years of underground mining experience required
  • Minimum five years training experience required
  • Certificate in ‘Train the Trainer’ program would be an asset
  • Strong leadership, multi-tasking and communication skills
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills

Graphic Designer (Full-time)

Reporting to the Manager of Branding and Media Design, the Graphic Designer will perform a wide range of design and visual communication tasks for a variety of marketing, corporate communication and eLearning programs. The Designer must be able to work in a fast-paced, flexible work environment and will bring a creative flare to design projects.

Responsibilities:
  • Work with NORCAT’s Learning & Development team in the design and production of eLearning programming
  • Design corporate communication material in various formats / medium.
  • Respond to client requests, both internal and external, in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Work with NORCAT PR team to update and maintain NORCAT’s social media presence.
  • Work with NORCAT PR team in web / social media metrics analysis.
  • Other duties as required.

Requirements / Qualifications:

Experience, Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Two years post-secondary degree/diploma in graphic design or comparable program
  • One to three years of relevant experience
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (particularly Animate, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and After Effects) and Word and Powerpoint
  • Ability to create social media graphics: LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube
  • Ability to work with tight deadlines
  • Ability to brainstorm and mock-up design ideas; present design concepts
  • Ability to accommodate creative critiques and adjust designs to suit revision requests
  • Ensure all creative work is of the highest quality and reflects brand standards
  • Creative and innovative with a keen eye for detail, consistency, typography and design trends
  • Experience with digital video editing is an asset
  • Experience with audio editing is an asset

As Sudbury’s Regional Innovation Centre, NORCAT Innovation is focused on supporting early-stage tech startups and the people founding them. We help by providing access to key resources and connections to the networks they need to start, grow and scale their ventures. As part of our commitment to fostering innovation and growth in the tech sector, we have launched a new project, Core5, which aims to assist SMEs in developing Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) and Electric Vehicle (EV) technologies across the value chain, from critical minerals extraction to EV technology manufacturing.

NORCAT Innovation – Content Specialist: This is a full time, contract position. Expected end date is March 31, 2025 with the possibility of extension.

As part of the NORCAT Innovation team, the Content Specialist will play a key role in creating impactful content, stories, and testimonials that will celebrate and promote the success and accomplishments of our key stakeholders, partners, and clients. Beyond telling their stories, you will further be asked to promote the vast array of NORCAT Innovation programs, services, and resources available to tech start-ups in Canada and around the world.

This role demands a blend of creativity, analytical prowess, and a keen eye for detail to develop, proofread, and enhance a variety of content types across multiple platforms and channels. Key Responsibilities:

  • Regularly develop and share content that celebrates the achievements and progress of NORCAT's client companies, spotlighting their innovations and contributions to the tech ecosystem.
  • Actively promote the programs, services, and resources available to tech start-ups within the NORCAT ecosystem, ensuring wide visibility and accessibility.
  • Work with the NORCAT marketing, digital, and communications teams to produce SEO-optimized content including testimonials, blogs, media submissions/articles, web content, and other marketing, promotional, and communications content.
  • Participate in tech events, workshops and forums to gather insights and stories that can be transformed into compelling content, fostering a stronger connection with the tech community.
  • Utilize analytics tools to track the performance of content, using insights to refine strategies and increase the impact of NORCAT’s digital content presence.
  • Other duties as required.

Requirements / Qualifications:
  • Exceptional writing and communication skills.
  • Possesses an understanding of SEO principles and practices, ensuring content is optimized for search engines and social media channels.
  • Exhibit a strong ability to distill complex technical concepts and stories into clear, accessible language, ensuring meaningful audience engagement and understanding of the content.
  • Skilled in conducting thorough research to produce informative and original content.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills– it can get very busy at NORCAT given the continued growth in our start-up tech portfolio.

Given multiple NORCAT locations, the ideal candidate will have a valid driver's license and vehicle to travel between various locations occasionally.
