Jason Bubba and Louise Caicco Tett join northern health and safety association board
Workplace Safety North (WSN) welcomed two new board members at its September annual general meeting: Jason Bubba and Louise Caicco Tett. Lydia Renton has moved from vice chair to chair and Tim Bremner is now vice chair. Past chair Sandra Haddad and outgoing board member John O’Brien were thanked for their years of service.
Jason Bubba is the Chief Operating Officer at NORCAT, which offers skilled labour training and development and mining technology and innovation. Jason is dedicated to the development and delivery of world-class programs, services, and resources to reduce injuries, save lives, and enhance productivity in the workplace.
With 25 years of experience at NORCAT, Jason understands the history and the roots of the organization and draws on that experience to help drive where NORCAT is going into the future. Jason has been involved in training development since 1995 and was at the forefront of learning technology development, including simulation, virtual reality, augmented reality, and e-learning. He works with new start-up mines and global mining companies, helping them formulate training strategies and implement learning technology. Jason is also a seasoned entrepreneur whose many ventures ranged from customized interface control systems for the process control industry, to owning and operating a large retail store.
Jason is dedicated to his community, having served on many volunteer boards including the position of Past President of the United Way Centraide North East Ontario, and currently serves on the Board of Governors at Cambrian College in Sudbury. Jason has been honoured with several awards that recognize his volunteerism in the community, including the 40 Under 40 awards program and an Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration Volunteer Service Award.
Louise Caicco Tett is a Registered Nurse with a degree from the University of Western Ontario. She has a certificate in Occupational Health and Safety and holds her Canadian Registered Safety Professional Designation. Louise also has her Master's in Public Health (Occupational Health and Safety Management) from Tulane University's Department of Public Health and Tropical Medicine.
Louise has worked in a variety of industries as an Occupational Health Consultant and has 25 years of facilitation and training experience. She has helped many businesses develop and implement occupational health and safety management systems in their workplaces. Louise was a valuable member of several audit teams, also serving as a lead auditor.
A City of Sault Ste. Marie-appointed Board member for Algoma Public Health (APH) and a member on the APH Board Finance Committee, Louise has also volunteered with WSPS, (formerly IAPA) working on their conference planning committee and speaking at several conferences for almost 25 years. Throughout the pandemic, Louise supported many businesses and has noted the toll our collective experience has had on mental health. She is a Canadian Mental Health Association Certified Psychological Health and Safety Advisor.
Born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, Louise raised her family there, and oversees her health and safety business, which is mostly made of northern Ontario businesses. She is excited to learn from WSN employees, fellow board members, and clients, and to offer her expertise wherever needed.
An independent not-for-profit, Workplace Safety North is one of four sector-based health and safety associations in Ontario and supplies province-wide Ministry-approved workplace health and safety training and services for the mining and forest products industries, and for businesses across northern Ontario.
