NORCAT and University College of the North (UCN) Announce Partnership to Propel Manitoba's Mining Industry Forward

Northern Manitoba – NORCAT, a leading non-profit organization specializing in training and development services, is thrilled to announce a strategic partnership with the University College of the North (UCN), aimed at fortifying the development of mining exploration and projects in Manitoba.

With 29 out of the 31 minerals listed on Canada's 2021 Critical Minerals List located in Manitoba, the province stands at the forefront of critical and strategic minerals. Six of these minerals, are identified by the Canadian government as pivotal for economic growth, present a unique opportunity for Manitoba to stimulate economic development and strengthen domestic capacity for priority supply chains.

"Cultivating opportunities in northern Manitoba is at the heart of this partnership with NORCAT. This collaboration serves as a catalyst, paving the way for a wealth of opportunities in both the education and mining sectors while contributing to the prosperity of both individuals and communities across northern Manitoba." Said Doug Lauvstad, President and Vice-Chancellor at University College of the North.

Northern and Indigenous communities, situated near potential mineral exploration and development projects, hold the key to substantial economic advantages. The collaboration between NORCAT and UCN is poised to tap into this potential by addressing key aspects of workforce development and industry collaboration.

"This partnership reflects our shared vision with the University College of the North, empowering Manitoba through accessible education, sustainable growth, and creating opportunities for a prosperous future in the mining sector," expressed Jason Bubba, NORCAT’s Chief Operating Officer.

The NORCAT and UCN partnership signifies a shared commitment to harnessing Manitoba's mining potential while fostering social and economic prosperity.
